Iran closes schools in Tehran due to air pollution

Iranian authorities ordered the closure of schools in Tehran on Wednesday due to high levels of air pollution, the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA) reported.

And "ISNA" quoted the deputy governor of Tehran, Abd al-Maliki, as saying that "all classes in Tehran province, with the exception of the cities of Pardis, Firouzkoh and Damavand, will be held virtually on Wednesday."

The decision was made by the committee responsible for pollution control in the capital.

"According to forecasts, the current weather conditions are likely to continue until Thursday," al-Maliki said.

Iranian authorities have closed schools several times this year in the capital as well as in other provinces.

On Monday, the Ministry of Education closed primary schools due to air pollution, which causes about 4,500 deaths every year in Iran, according to the Iranian Ministry of Health.
