While the discount of 30 cents per liter of fuel must drop to only 10 cents, overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, the government is already working on the next aid.

The executive wishes to set up aid for large rollers from January.

But Bercy is still working on the contours of this boost.

Last day to take advantage of the government discount of 30 cents per liter of fuel.

From this Wednesday, the discount will increase to 10 cents.

Same story at TotalEnergies, which also offered an additional discount of 20 cents.

The latter will also increase to 10 cents.

So, in a Parisian suburban station, many motorists want to take advantage of these aids one last time.

"Better to refuel today than tomorrow", sums up a motorist, in front of a station in Issy-les-Moulineaux in the Hauts-de-Seine.

"People throw themselves on the pumps and therefore, we create the shortage ourselves", annoys on the other side of the station, this driver.

New help for heavy riders

This first reduction in rebates marks a turning point in government policy in the face of high fuel prices in the country.

From next year, France will abandon discounts in favor of more targeted aid for large riders.

This boost had already made the headlines last summer.

The government now wants to help the most modest motorists who use their car to go to work

"You will go to an extremely simple website where you will put your income and a certain number of elements on your car. And from this information, we will tell you how and when you are entitled to this targeted rebate", explained this Tuesday morning on Europe 1, the Minister of Transport Clément Beaune.

A cost of 1.6 billion euros

Bercy is still working on the exact contours of this future aid.

The ministry is still reflecting on the terms of payment, the maximum income threshold to benefit from the aid, but also on its amount.

It could be 100 to 200 euros.

Another point of reflection, the addition of a surcharge based on the mileage achieved by the applicant for assistance.

All these points of reflection will define the number of households that will benefit from the aid.

On the other hand, the cost of the measure has already been communicated by Bercy.

Thus, this aid to large wheelers should cost nearly 1.6 billion euros next year.
