Bardella (left) and former leader Le Pen, elected as the new leader of the far-right French party RN

The French far-right National Coalition has elected 27-year-old Jordan Bardella, a member of the European Parliament, as its new leader.

According to foreign media, Bardella was elected with an overwhelming majority of 85% of the votes from the party members.

This is the first time that a person other than the Le Pen family has been appointed as the party leader in the National Coalition.

Until now, the National Coalition was led by Jean-Marie Le Pen, who founded the party in 1972, and his daughter, Marine Le Pen.

Marine Le Pen stepped down from her leadership position last year ahead of the presidential election this year, and Bardella, whom Le Pen points out as her successor, took over as interim president.

After losing the presidential election this year following 2012 and 2017, Le Pen is expected to run for the fourth time in the 2027 presidential election.

Bardella, of Italian descent, was born in 1995 in Drancy, outside Paris, and studied geography at the Sorbonne.

During the 2017 presidential election, he served as a spokesperson for the party while assisting former leader Le Pen, raising his awareness.

With the election of the 20th representative, the far-right National Coalition has put more effort into targeting the youth.
