More than 60 years ago, Puleva was at the forefront of nutrition
, primarily focusing its activity on research to understand and satisfy the nutritional needs of different population groups with a more suitable milk for each moment of consumption, which would provide a little extra health .
This is how she became one of the most chosen in Spain and an international reference.
Six decades later, Lactalis Puleva faces the challenge of transforming its activity towards more sustainable dairy food production processes
and follows a path, together with the other Lactalis Group companies, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the Organization of United Nations.
In this sense
, Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability in the company are based on three preferred areas of action
:
planet
(SDG 6, 7, 12, 13 and 15),
products
(SDG 3, 12 and 15) and
people
(SDG 3, 4, 5 and 8).
Transversally, these three areas are joined by
ethical governance
as a guarantor of the responsible behavior of the organization (SDG 16 and 17).
Additionally, all the companies that are part of the Lactalis Group around the world
have prioritized
three common objectives in terms of environmental sustainability
to advance collectively.
Ambitious and specific challenges that support the corporate commitment to an increasingly sustainable diet:
continue advancing in animal welfare
(SDG 12 and 15),
reduce the carbon footprint
(SDG 7, 9, 12 and 13) and
promote the circular economy and sustainable packaging
(SDG 12 and 13).
2021: Significant progress on three priority goals
During 2021 Lactalis Puleva made significant progress in the three main priorities it has established in terms of sustainability.
2022: Advances and news
Lactalis Puleva has continued to work hard this year to materialize advances that help reduce the impact of all its activity: more farms certified in animal welfare, new investments aimed at increasing the weight of renewable energy in the energy mix and specific improvements in
packaging
matters
are some of the initiatives.
More farms certified in animal welfare
In addition to collaborating with farmers to identify and promote more sustainable production formulas such as organic milk, which it pioneered more than 20 years ago, all the companies that are part of the Lactalis Group are committed to certification as a way to guarantee quality of milk, animal welfare and more optimal production processes.
Grupo Lactalis is the Spanish company with the largest number of farms certified in animal welfare under the Animal WelfairTM seal
.
During 2021, 86% of its milk came from farms certified in animal welfare (42% more than in 2020).
During 2022 it has continued working to increase this figure, since the objective is to certify all the farms with which it collaborates.
Towards a greater weight of renewable energy
50% of the electricity that the companies that make up the Lactalis Group in Spain use in factories, warehouses and offices is of renewable origin
, thanks to the agreement reached with ENGIE Spain, which is deploying several photovoltaic plants and wind farms that generate the electricity used .
In addition, in Granada, where it has the largest capacity milk bottling plant in Spain, a solar plant will start operating from the 1st quarter of 2023, which will allow it to reach
67% of electricity from renewable sources
.
This measure will contribute to further improve the reduction in the CO2 emissions ratio experienced in the last year (-62%).
Incorporation of 50% recycled plastic in its films
During 2022, they have worked to
increase the amount of recycled plastic
in their secondary films, going from 30% to 50%.
This improvement allows us to
reuse 412T of plastic per year
.
New cap tied on all packaging
After successfully completing the test of the new tied cap on Puleva Fresca bottles, the brand is progressively extending this type of closure to its entire range of products.
In this way,
the stoppers will be prevented from ending up in nature and their recycling will be facilitated
, since the container and the stopper will remain together so that they can be deposited in the yellow container.
Its operation is very simple, as shown in this infographic related to the container in brik format:
Towards a greater presence of recycled PET in bottles
During 2022, the company has continued to work in the plants to adapt the packaging lines so that the bottles can contain
at least 30% recycled PET
, which is the objective set in its roadmap.
Reduction of the use of plastic in the bottle of fresh milk
Another measure implemented this year has been the reduction in the weight of the bottle of fresh milk, without impacting the safety, quality and usability of the product, which will allow
the reduction of consumption of 41 tons of PET each year
.
All containers and packaging with clear information for the consumer
As part of the commitment to continuous improvement, Lactalis Puleva is also working to ensure that all containers and packaging have clear and concise information, so as to facilitate the classification of waste and the development of a true circular economy.
Other commitments
Lactalis Puleva continues to work to guarantee the economic sustainability of its activity
, because only in this way can the future of the livestock sector be guaranteed, as well as the population's access to healthy and tasty food, while at the same time protecting the planet and its resources.
Aware of the social, economic, ethical, legal and environmental responsibility that it has with the environment in which it operates and of its impact, especially important in rural areas, the Lactalis Group annually publishes its
corporate responsibility report
, which details the commitments and main advances in these and other matters.
