In the feature film from DC comics, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson plays Teth Adam, a former slave with superpowers, just released from a very long prison sentence, who finds a transformed and hostile universe.

The film, which also stars Pierce Brosnan, earned a modest $27.7 million in revenue in North America from Friday to Sunday, according to the specialist firm.

The romantic comedy, "Ticket To Paradise", ranks second with $10 million in revenue.

In this film with a five-star cast, Julia Roberts and George Clooney play ex-spouses who put aside their differences and travel to Bali to try to prevent the marriage of their daughter, deemed too hasty.

In this Halloween period, horror films logically take pride of place, "four of the first ten films of the weekend being horror films", notes David Gross, of the specialized firm Franchise Entertainment Research.

In third place, "The Devil's Prey" raked in $7 million, "rather average as a start for an original horror film" but the film was "poorly reviewed", according to David Gross.

Two other horror films, the psychological "Smile", fourth, and the very bloody "Halloween Ends", fifth, earn respectively 5 million and 3.8 million dollars.
