Westinghouse, an American company, has been selected as a contractor for the first phase of construction of Poland's first nuclear power plant.

Polish Prime Minister Matteusi Moraviecki posted on social media on the 28th local time, saying, "After talks with US Vice President Kamala Harris and Energy Minister Jennifer Granholm, it has been decided to use safe Westinghouse technology for our nuclear power plant project." said.

Earlier, U.S. Energy Secretary Granholm also said, "I heard the news that the Polish Prime Minister announced that the U.S. government and Westinghouse would be the first phase of the construction of a $40 billion nuclear power plant."

"This is a clear message to Russia that the Atlantic Alliance is united in diversifying our energy supply, combating climate change and fighting energy weaponization," Granholm said.

Poland's new nuclear power plant project is to build 6 units of pressurized light water reactors with a scale of 6 to 9 gigawatts.

Three companies submitted proposals: Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, Westinghouse in the US, and EDF in France.

Westinghouse has previously filed an intellectual property lawsuit in the United States to keep its competitor, KHNP, in check.

Westinghouse filed a complaint with the U.S. District Court in Washington DC on the 21st, requesting that KEPCO and KHNP restrict the export of Korean nuclear power plants, claiming that their technology was used in the next-generation Korean nuclear power plant APR1400.
