Ukraine announces “unprecedented” power outages in the Kyiv region

Ukraine announced an "unprecedented" blackout in the Kyiv region on Friday, with Ukraine's energy facilities badly damaged by Russian strikes in recent weeks.

For its part, Russia announced Friday that it had completed the mobilization of 300,000 reservists in a little more than a month, including 41,000 deployed to Ukraine, in a sign of President Vladimir Putin's desire to reverse the trend quickly after a series of setbacks.

"Unfortunately, additional restrictions on electrical supply will be imposed in the coming days," Ukrainian private company Dtec wrote on Facebook on Friday.

And the Ukrainian "Interfax" news agency reported that the CEO of the company, Dmytro Skharok, explained that "these restrictions will last from five to six hours," compared to four hours in the past.

"The task of recruiting 300,000 people has been accomplished," Shoigu said during an interview with Putin, noting that 41,000 of them are distributed in military units in Ukraine, while the Russian president praised the "patriotism" of the mobilized conscripts.

"There are no additional missions planned," he added, noting that Russia does not plan to mobilize more reservists and civilians in the near future.

In turn, Putin said, "I want to thank everyone who joined the armed forces. Thank you for this loyalty to duty, for this patriotism."
