The attack in the Assago shopping center

lasted just one minute

in which one person died and five others were injured.

This was explained by General Iacopo Mannucci Benincasa, provincial commander of the Milan carabinieri, during the press conference convened by the public prosecutor Marcello Viola.

The commander explained that, based on the footage from the supermarket cameras and the tracks on the ground, it was possible to reconstruct the dynamics and times.

“From the moment he took the knife off a shelf until it got to the checkout counters, and then the alarm went off, a minute went by,” he explained.

A minute in which, however, "the victims could have been more", as reported by the Milan prosecutor, Marcello Viola.

The prosecutor explained that at that time the point of sale was particularly crowded and underlined the

civic sense of the citizens

who were on the spot and who intervened by giving a hand to the carabinieri to block the attacker.

Viola reiterated "that he is able to

exclude that terrorist motives are at the basis of the gesture

".

"We have ascertained that this is the manifestation of a serious mental illness," he said.

Then he expressed "the utmost solidarity with the victims and their families".

The only victim of the attack,

Luis Fernando Ruggieri

, was not supposed to be at the cash desks at the time of the attack, he generally worked in the mineral water department, away from contact with the public.

In the meantime, in the psychiatric ward of the San Paolo hospital in Milan, the interrogation of Andrea Tombolini, the 46-year-old arrested for the stabbing of Assago, is underway.

The man is currently accused of murder and two attempted murders.

The investigative investigations last night revealed Tombolini's mental problems, who nevertheless had never given signs that would suggest a gesture like yesterday's.

He himself, answering questions from investigators, reported that he vented his anger by throwing sharing bicycles on the ground.

Before entering the Carrefour, Tombolini had undergone a gastroscopy due to gastric reflux in the late afternoon yesterday.

Meanwhile,

Pablo Marì, the Spanish defender of Monza

among those injured by Tombolini, reassures everyone with a post on Instagram.

"After the difficult moment we experienced yesterday, my family and I want to communicate that, fortunately, we are well and we want to thank you for the many messages of affection and support we are receiving".

“We are close to the victim's family and friends to whom we offer our deepest condolences.

We also wish a speedy recovery to the other injured people ”, adds the footballer photographed in the hospital bed with his thumb up and, next to him, his wife Veronica.
