Lebanon launches negotiating track on maritime borders with Cyprus

Yesterday, Lebanese President Michel Aoun launched the negotiation process with Cyprus to address the situation of the maritime borders between the two countries, during his meeting with a Cypriot delegation.

The Lebanese president said during his reception of the delegation of the Republic of Cyprus, "The aim of the meeting is to agree on addressing the outstanding issue in drawing the maritime borders, after we finished drawing the southern maritime borders."

Aoun added, "Between Lebanon and Cyprus, there is no need for a mediator, because we are two neighboring and friendly countries, and this is what makes our task easy to remove the emerging ambiguities."

During the meeting, the current reality on the maritime borders with Cyprus and the basis for negotiation between the Lebanese and Cypriot sides were presented. During the meeting, the two sides discussed the points that were stuck between the two countries regarding the borders and maritime demarcation, which witnessed a difference of views in the past.
