One person was killed and four others injured, including Spanish footballer Pablo Mari, in a knife attack on Thursday in a shopping center near Milan, media reports refer to the isolated act of an unbalanced man.

A 46-year-old Italian suffering from psychiatric disorders was arrested a few moments after the attack, which occurred at the end of the afternoon in Assago, on the outskirts of Milan, said the Italian press agency Ansa.

According to the same source, the person killed was an employee of the Carrefour hypermarket, located inside the shopping center where the attack took place.

According to Ansa, four people were seriously injured in the attack.

According to the first elements of the investigation, the assailant, who was undergoing treatment for depression, grabbed a knife on the shelf before attacking several people nearby.

Among the injured is the Spanish footballer Pablo Marì, central defender on loan to Monza (Serie A) by Arsenal.

Hospitalized, he was conscious and able to speak, a source close to the club told AFP.
