Italy and France move forward together.

This is the message of the French President Emmanuel Macron, who met the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni this evening in Rome.

"As Europeans, as neighboring countries, as peoples friends, with Italy we must continue all the work we have begun - wrote Macron on Twitter - Succeeding together, with dialogue and ambition: we owe it to our young people and our peoples. Our first meeting in Rome, @Giorgia Meloni, goes in this direction ".

After participating in the peace conference organized by the Community of Sant'Egidio at the 'La Nuvola' congress center in Rome, the head of the Elysée met the new prime minister in a Roman hotel.

"We preferred this meeting to be informal, but it is important in the context of relations between our countries and as far as the European Union is concerned".

Macron is the first international leader to meet with the newly installed prime minister.

The French president confirmed that tomorrow he will see the Pope and the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella.
