New elections should be held by next week.

French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday he hoped the United Kingdom would "quickly" regain "stability" after the announcement of the resignation of Prime Minister Liz Truss.

"I had the opportunity to meet Liz Truss on several occasions. We spoke again this week and we had a working relationship that was building," he said upon arriving at a summit of leaders of the EU in Brussels.

"I wish that, in any case, Britain can find stability as soon as possible, move forward," he added.
