Kevin Spacey is not responsible: he did not molest Anthony Rapp in 1986. It is the verdict of the jury of the federal court of Manhattan called to rule on the accusations made by Anthony Rapp, another actor who accused him of using violence against him when he was just 14 years old (Spacey was 26), when both hit the stages as actors on 1980s Broadway.

According to the jury, Spacey is innocent because Rapp has not proven his claim that the former Oscar winner sexually harassed him.

The verdict followed a three-week trial in the Manhattan federal court and came about two hours after jurors began ruling.

The verdict of the federal court in Manhattan concludes a civil trial, born after the great explosion of the #MeToo movement.

The prosecution, based on Rapp's 2017 claims, had sought compensation of $ 40 million.

When the verdict was read, Spacey lowered his head.

But then he hugged the lawyers and other people before leaving the courtroom.

On Thursday, Rapp's attorney, Richard Steigman, urged jurors to charge Spacey for attempting a sexual initiative against Rapp at Spacey's Manhattan apartment in 1986 after a party.

He accused Spacey of lying on the stand.

Spacey's lawyer Jennifer Keller told jurors that Rapp made up the meeting and asked the jury to dismiss his claims.

According to Keller, in the years following the accident, Rapp would have become jealous of Spacey's career while he remained relegated to minor roles.

"Here we are today with Rapp getting more attention for this process than for his entire career than him," Keller said.

"This is not a sport where you side with MeToo or against MeToo. Our system requires evidence to support the allegations in front of an impartial jury," he explained.

Rapp's lawyer tried to convince the jury to the end by explaining that Spacey had lied in the dock.

"It lacks credibility," he said.

The jurors, however, did not listen to him and rejected the case.

Even before the deliberations began, the New York judge had partially dismissed the charges against Spacey, calling the jurors to decide only if he was responsible for using violence against Rapp and declaring no place to proceed on the accusation of having intentionally inflicted emotional damage on the boy.

"It's essentially a duplicate of the other charge," the judge said.

Rapp and Spacey testified during the trial and during his deposition, the House of Cards actor said he had not publicly declared himself homosexual for years because he was traumatized by his father Thomas Fowler, who was a racist and homophobic.

Rapp's revelations were posted on the BuzzFeed News site in 2017 and were followed by more than a dozen other allegations of sexual harassment by other people and concerning Spacey, which ended up abruptly terminating his career.
