The Tunisian authorities announced that they had recovered 6 other bodies after the shipwreck that took place on the night between 6 and 7 September off the coast of the city of Chebba, in the governorate of Mahdia.

This was announced by the spokesman for the National Guard of Tunis in a note on Facebook.

The death toll has therefore risen to 17, after the recovery of 11 bodies and the rescue of 14 people.

According to the same source, some are still missing, so search operations are continuing.

The boat, according to official sources, housed about 37 people, all of Tunisian nationality.

Two days ago, the Tunisian authorities had taken stock of the shipwreck, specifying that they had found 6 bodies that were on board the sunken boat, while 14 migrants had been rescued in the immediacy of the tragedy.

According to investigations conducted in coordination with the Prosecutor's Office, the boat allegedly carried between 34 and 37 people.
