The intelligence services of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan signed a protocol aimed at reaching peace between the two countries, following the armed clashes that erupted between them recently.

In Tajikistan, he met with the head of the Kyrgyz State Committee for National Security Qamdzhik Bek Tashiev, and his Tajik counterpart Saimomen Yatimov.

During the meeting - the details of which were not disclosed - the two sides signed a protocol in order to secure the withdrawal of military forces and achieve stability, following the ceasefire announced on September 16.

During the meeting, it was agreed to return 4 Kyrgyz soldiers detained by Tajikistan during the recent clashes, and Tashiev returned them to the Kyrgyzstan region of Batkin.

It is noteworthy that the Kyrgyz-Tajik border witnessed mutual clashes on the morning of the 16th of this month, which led to the killing of about 100 people on both sides.

The border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan extends about a thousand kilometers, and after the collapse of the Soviet Union, dozens of border areas remained in dispute between the two countries.

On May 21, 2021, Kyrgyzstan announced the closure of all customs crossings with Tajikistan until the border problem is resolved.
