According to the preliminary election results, the Center Party appears to be going backwards compared to the last election.

They currently receive 6.7 percent of the votes in the parliamentary election.

The party is also backing down in a number of regions and municipalities.

In the email sent out to the party's representatives, signed Annie Lööf and party secretary Michael Arthursson, the result is described as "shaking".

"It was not at all the success we had all worked so hard for and hoped for so much.

Our energetic election rush did not get us to the historically good election results we achieved in 2018. On the contrary, our share of the vote decreased in all parliamentary constituencies and in a large part of all municipalities and regions," they write and continue:

"As early as Friday, our party board will have a thorough discussion and appoint an election analysis group that will listen in depth and propose changes going forward."

Departure requirements from Öland

Because of the election results, critical voices are now heard internally in the party - against the leadership and Annie Lööf.

On Tuesday, the C chairman in Borgholm told SvD that he believes that Annie Lööf should resign before the next election.

- I have confidence in Annie, but believe that we must have a new party leader for the next election, he tells the newspaper.

"Go troll in the positions"

However, the resignation demand is not supported by Gunnar Selberg, circuit chairman of the Center Party in Kiruna.

At the same time, he is critical of the party's choice of path.

- I think that our compass has started to spin wildly and is guided by something other than our own ideology, he says to SVT Nyheter.

Which way should the compass point?

- It should point in a liberal direction, where we stand for diversity, the driving force as small entrepreneurs and the decentralized society.

I think Annie believes that too, I don't doubt for a moment her and the party leadership's ideology.

- But I think the positions have been trolled thanks to the Sweden Democrats, the compass is no longer guided by our ideology, but we relate to where SD stands.

Do you think about the government context you have found yourself in?

- Yes, including that.

I think we should have been pragmatic and not taken a position before.
