In the clip above, you can hear an interview with Jonas Attenius (S) and Emmyly Bönfors (C).

The Social Democrats make strong progress in the municipal elections in Gothenburg and receive six new mandates in the council, according to the preliminary election results.

After the 2018 election, the red-green cooperation between S, V and MP broke up and it is unclear whether it can be revived.

In that case, the three parties together would get a majority - according to current preliminary figures: 41 seats.

- I have understood that it is ticking back and forth, it is only on Wednesday that we will know how it will turn out.

But regardless, it is the upcoming negotiations that will decide.

I will negotiate broadly, says Jonas Attenius (S).

Possible collaboration with the Center Party

At national level, the Center Party has chosen to be part of the Social Democrats' government foundation.

The question is how it will turn out in Gothenburg.

How do you think about cooperation with the Center Party?

- I have the doors wide open, the only thing I close the doors to are the Sweden Democrats and I stand by that, says Jonas Attenius (S).

The Center Party municipal councilor gives a similar answer.

Will you continue to cooperate in the Alliance or could it be relevant to cooperate in the left direction?

This is how the mandate distribution looks like in the municipal election in Gothenburg when 99 percent of the votes have been counted.

- What we have said is that we can imagine talking to all parties, except the Sweden Democrats, says Emmyly Bönfors (C).

26 out of 81 mandates

At the time of writing, the current government, the Alliance (M, KD, L and C), has 26 out of 81 mandates.

The moderates' Axel Josefson is subdued the day after the election, but says he is satisfied that the party in Gothenburg has grown.

He too is now looking for broad collaborations for a possible alliance government.

- We primarily want cooperation within the alliance.

Since then, we have been open to also include the Democrats in this collaboration.

What do you think about the Sweden Democrats?

- We have said that we do not want formal budget cooperation with them.

But from the moderate side, we are prepared to talk with all parties on individual issues and settle with them on individual issues.
