“For years, prosperous European allies refused to take responsibility for their own defense, preferring to use America for free,” the observer noted.

Bandow was outraged by the fact that despite the loud statements of European leaders in support of Ukraine, Washington assumes most of the aid costs.

“Neither the Italians, nor the Spaniards, nor anyone else west of the Oder River is interested in signing a contract with Ukraine, let alone sending troops to defend it,” the author added.

In his opinion, it is high time for the United States to remind Kyiv that their help is not endless. 

Bandow suggested that Brussels take a leading role in resolving the Ukrainian crisis.

“It is high time for Europeans to take primary responsibility for their own defense.

They will act like children as long as Washington treats them like children,” the author concluded.

Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that there is a split in the European Union due to the situation around Ukraine and it could lead to an internal explosion in the union.
