For the first time since 1989, Israel is facing polio.

This was announced by the Ministry of Health which reports of a four-year-old child from the Jerusalem area who had not been vaccinated.

An epidemiological investigation was conducted among the people who were in contact with him, for fear of contagion.

Yesterday, the head of public health services, Dr. Sharon Alroy-Preis, held a press conference to remind parents of the importance of timely vaccinating their children.

She advised, according to the Jerusalem Post, to bring the first dose to 6 weeks after birth and the second to 12 weeks.

The concern of the Ministry of Health derives, among other things, from the observation that among the children of Jerusalem the percentage of these vaccinations is about 95%, and is considered unsatisfactory.
