A joint government delegation composed of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has arrived in Washington, D.C.

This is to discuss the issue of exempting Korean electric vehicles from subsidies due to the US Inflation Reduction Act.

[Ahn Seong-il / Head of New Trade Order Strategy, Ministry of Industry and Trade: We plan to convey the position of Korean companies and the government's concerns about the US electric vehicle subsidy system this time.

We plan to discuss countermeasures between the two countries in the future.]

The delegation plans to focus on the fact that excluding Korean-made electric vehicles is unfair discrimination by limiting the 10 million won tax deduction under the Inflation Reduction Act to electric vehicles assembled in the United States. no see.

In particular, we believe that these measures are in violation of the Korea-US Free Trade Agreement and the World Trade Organization's trade principles, which treat foreign products on an equal basis with their own.

[Tae-Yong Cho / Ambassador to the United States: He emphasized that the discriminatory measures against Korean electric vehicles, which are FTA partners, are unfair, and the US side does not present any differences of opinion on this.]

Following the working-level discussion, next week Ahn Deok-geun, head of the Trade and Negotiation Headquarters, will also visit the United States for high-level discussions.

Although the Inflation Reduction Act has already been enacted, the Korean government is planning to engage in all-out diplomatic warfare with the amendment of the law in mind by contacting key officials of the US administration and Congress in all directions.
