The report states that there were deficiencies in the police protection that Shinzo Abe had and this allowed the shooter to attack from behind.

The former Japanese president was killed while giving a campaign speech in Nara in western Japan, the shooter was arrested on the spot.

The perpetrator has stated that his motive was Abe's connection to the religious organization the Family Federation for World Peace and Unity, formerly the Unity Church, which he hated.

Shinzo Abe is the longest-serving Japanese president, first in 2006 and then between 2012 and 2020. He was also an important factor in Tokyo being able to host the Summer Olympic Games in 2021.
