Locally, there may be large amounts of rain in northern Halland, Västra Götaland County, Värmland, Örebro County, Jönköping County and in southern Jämtland County, according to SMHI's warning.

The high humidity means a lot of energy in the air, which in turn causes the clouds to grow higher and give rise to large village clouds, says Deana Bajic.

- This can bring heavy showers with a lot of rain in a small area and for a short time.

In connection with this, there may be strong thunder and wind.

Also large amounts of rain in Norrland

In addition to traffic disruptions, the water masses can also cause problems for homeowners in the affected areas, not least in the form of flooded basements.

A little depending on which direction the clouds take during the evening, there may be some rain in the form of local showers also in the northern parts of Värmland and in Dalarna.

Once Götaland and Svealand have received their share of the wet, further rain is expected in Norrland in connection with a cold front moving in from the west during tomorrow.

It is mainly in the northwestern parts of Norrland and parts of Västerbotten that large amounts of rain can fall in places.

And by the weekend, a low pressure is expected to move in over central Norrland, something that could give rise to heavy rain.

However, it is uncertain exactly which path the air masses will take and which areas will be affected.

"More widespread rain is needed"

Despite the upcoming rain, August has so far been drier than normal, i.e. drier than reference values during the period 1991-2021.

In, among other things, large parts of Götaland and northern Svealand, the rain is much needed, says Deana Bajic.

- The problem is that when it falls through showers, it can happen locally and in a short time, which can cause floods.

It does some good, of course, but more extensive rain for a few days would be needed to reduce the drought.
