The Wall Street Journal revealed that the United States tightened its security measures around federal buildings immediately after the assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani in early 2020 for fear of retaliation.

The newspaper quoted former and current US officials that the state of security alert in the United States after the killing of Soleimani was kept secret, and it was called "Operation Resilience".

The operation included - according to US officials - preparations to repel cyber-attacks, and alerting the Coast Guard and Border Guard forces to face any retaliatory threat.

According to the newspaper, the operation is an indication that the fears of the Iranian response were not limited to the assassination of US officials, but rather included striking government interests.

Soleimani was killed by a US air strike on January 3, 2020, near Baghdad International Airport.
