The Russian leader stated this in his greeting to the participants and guests of the 10th Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

Putin emphasized that, as a state party to the NPT, Russia fully follows the “letter and spirit” of the treaty, including the fulfillment of Russian obligations under bilateral agreements with the United States to reduce and limit nuclear weapons.

“We proceed from the fact that there can be no winners in a nuclear war and it should never be unleashed, and we stand for equal and indivisible security for all members of the world community,” RIA Novosti quoted Putin as saying.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow is not playing with the topic of nuclear war.

Lavrov noted that the inadmissibility of nuclear war is Russia's principled position.
