Ayman al-Zawahiri, who took over the leadership role of the terrorist group al-Qaeda after the death of Osama bin Laden, was killed in a drone attack in Kabul, Afghanistan on Monday.

It is the first attack by the United States since American forces left Afghanistan last year, according to The New York Times.

According to a Twitter post, the Taliban condemned the operation and claimed the attack was carried out on a residential building in Kabul's Sherpur district, a wealthy neighborhood in the center of the capital.
