The government of Congo-Kinshasa is auctioning off land to increase oil drilling in the country.

Based on calculations, the value of the oil believed to be there corresponds to half of the country's GDP.

Reduce poverty

The country's government sees it as a way to reduce poverty.

But the criticism applies, among other things, to the fact that companies are now allowed to enter one of Congo-Kinshasa's most important national parks.

- This is one of the few rainforests in the world that still absorbs carbon dioxide.

So it is extremely unfortunate in that way, says Erika Bjerström.

Is there a possibility of this being stopped?

- The president is very annoyed that Greenpeace and others are getting involved. It has made him even more determined.

The only thing that could affect is that there are many banks and investment institutions that do not make fossil investments.

It could possibly mean that some of these developers cannot afford it, says Erika Bjerström.
