RBC: Russia proposed to change the rules for the passage of foreign ships along the Northern Sea Route

RBC writes about this with reference to the explanatory note of the ministry to the proposed changes to the law "On internal sea waters, the territorial sea and the adjacent zone of the Russian Federation."

The publication notes that more than one foreign vessel cannot be located on the territory of the Northern Sea Route without special permission from the government.

Another point of the project concerns foreign submarines, which should follow the Northern Sea Route on the surface and under their own flag.

In addition, it is proposed to allow the authorities to suspend the entry of foreign warships into the internal waters of the NSR for a certain period.

In January, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev said that the Northern Sea Route is under Russian jurisdiction and decisions in this direction are made by the Russian Federation.
