Abbasinejad used to be able to grow fruit on his farm, but now he can only grow wheat grains and carrots, which he says are vital for his family.

- Everything is gone because of the lack of water.

It was different before.

The mountains beyond were green as in northern Iran.

Now we don't have water, everything is gone, says Alireza Abbasinejad.

In the Iranian village of Kharanaq, water is needed for both cultivation and drinking water.

Over a thousand people lived in his village and most were farmers.

In recent decades, more than half have been forced to move.
