Erdogan: Meetings are continuing to improve relations with Egypt

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said today, Monday, that meetings to improve relations with Egypt are continuing, and that there are no major obstacles preventing this.

Erdogan added, "Talks with the Egyptian side are still going on at the lowest levels so far. We have no objection to their elevation to a high level. It is enough for there to be mutual understanding."

Earlier, the Chargé d'Affairs of the Turkish ambassador to Cairo, Ambassador Salih Mutlu Shan, reviewed the volume of trade exchange between Mansour and Turkey in recent times.

"The economy of Turkey and Egypt complement each other," Mutlu said on his Facebook account. "Mutual trade between the two countries provides job opportunities, bread and food."

He added, "In the first quarter of 2022, 10.9% of Egypt's total exports were to Turkey, and in this period, the total volume of trade between Turkey and Egypt increased by 84% compared to the previous year and exceeded two and a half billion dollars."

The Chargé d'Affairs of the Turkish ambassador to Egypt, Salih Mutlu Shan, began his work at the Turkish embassy in Cairo last June, at a time when the two countries are seeking to explore the necessary steps that may lead to the normalization of relations between them at the bilateral level and in the regional context. Upon his arrival, he held consultations with men Turkish business in Egypt about working to improve economic relations between the two countries.

Egypt had decided to reduce diplomatic representation with Turkey to the level of charge d'affaires, since November 2013, but last year witnessed two rounds of exploratory consultations to discuss the necessary steps that might lead to the normalization of relations between the two countries, in May and September 2021.
