The freezing point altitude over the Swiss Alps broke the record for the first time in 27 years, exceeding 5,000 meters above sea level.

The Swiss Meteorological Agency announced on Twitter on the 25th that the freezing point over the Alps rose to 5,184 meters overnight.

This is more than 70m higher than the previous record of 5,117m observed on July 20, 1995.

The Swiss Meteorological Agency explained that it is unusual for the Alps' freezing point to rise above 5,000 meters, which can remain below 0 degrees Celsius, and climate change has created such a record.
