Finally a constructive suggestion - and then from the Prime Minister of Saxony.

On what is probably the hottest day of the year and while his party friends from the Union in the Bundestag are pointing out the lack of credibility of the federal government in the Ukraine war, Michael Kretschmer says goodbye to the summer break with a bang: simply freeze the war!

It goes without saying that Germany, and why not Saxony, can play a pioneering role here.

A freeze would offer Putin the perfect opportunity to reorganize his troops, round off his previous conquests and consolidate his dictatorship.

More is not possible.

Is this what responsibility looks like?

Of course, the Saxon Prime Minister adds, it's not about Ukraine giving up territory.

But that should be less important for him than the – assumed – improvement in mood among his supporters.

But even if you can score points with some - is that what responsible politics looks like?

Germany is making every effort to do justice to its situation and its history.

But the result is sobering.

The federal government's declarations of solidarity and oaths of allegiance are diametrically opposed to its actual military aid.

Germany, the land of extremes, really needs to cool down.
