Good evening,

you survived this hot summer day well.

In the meantime, two camps have formed in the editorial office: those who stoically endure the heat, some even enjoy it.

And those who are struggling with all sorts of aches and pains in view of the rising temperatures.

First and foremost: heat hatred.

Nevertheless, served hot, the topics of the day.

Marie Lisa Kehler

Deputy head of the regional section of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

Desired temperature increase in offices:

Do you want to know how to make yourself really unpopular with just one sentence?

Tell someone whose office isn't air conditioned how cold they were in theirs today because of the air conditioning.

Please expect pity because you had to put on a sweater, although the asphalt outside is threatening to melt.

You will certainly not collect any sympathy points.

A small consolation for all those who have to do without air conditioning: even colleagues who are more used to refrigeration could start sweating a bit more in the next few weeks.

Or rather, at least they won't be cold anymore.

Many companies are reacting to the increased energy costs and are refraining from extreme cooling of the buildings.

This was the result of a small survey by the Rhein-Main business editorial team.

In the Commerzbank Tower, for example, it is always only six degrees colder than the outside temperature.

At values of 36 degrees, people sweat in the office too.

And even in the building of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, it is only cooled down to 24 degrees.

Nationwide, the energy consumption for cooling buildings has been increasing significantly for almost ten years.

It is currently around eleven terawatt hours.

For comparison: ten times as much energy is used for heating.

Hardly any school entrance examinations:

Adventurous months lie behind the employees of the Frankfurt Health Department.

Almost all of them had to let their regular tasks rest at times in order to work on “Corona” matters – for example in contact tracing.

The consequences of this are gradually becoming clear.

Not all of the approximately 7,000 preschool children have received an invitation to the school entrance examination.

Due to the corona pandemic, the investigations started later than usual, according to the office.

"In February, the first refugees from the Ukraine arrived in Frankfurt - so we were not able to fully fulfill our mission," says Dr.

Maria Karathana, Head of the Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine.

In the examinations, hearing and vision are tested, height and weight are determined, and physical development is assessed.

This examination was given preferentially to children who were already known to have developmental problems and needs.

This is to ensure that the necessary assistance is available when children start school or that support measures are made possible at an early stage.

"Unfortunately, we currently lack the time and resources for the children without special needs or abnormalities," says the health department.

Matthias Trautsch wrote down why the task cannot simply be transferred to resident doctors and when a regular examination can be expected for all students again.
