The eastern region recorded four incidents of marine pollution, during the last three months. The responsible authorities, represented by environmental authorities and municipalities, were able to deal with them literally, by taking the necessary measures to prevent oil and oil spills from entering reserves and beaches.

The first marine pollution to hit the coasts of the Emirate of Fujairah and the city of Kalba last May, where the Environment Agency in Fujairah responded urgently to a complaint received from a citizen, stating that there was oil pollution on the beaches of Fujairah, preventing beachgoers from practicing swimming and walking. The authority formed a team of The municipality, the fishermen's association and the Department of Works and Agriculture in Fujairah to inspect the site and remove pollution.

The Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority, in cooperation with the Kalba Municipality of the Emirate of Sharjah, was able to remove marine pollution resulting from the damage to the beaches and coasts of the city of Kalba and its areas with oil spots.

In June, two oil pollution hit the coasts of the Eastern Region, starting with Dibba Al-Fujairah, and the cadres working in the Dibba Al-Fujairah Municipality were able to deal with and contain it.

On June 17, the Environment Agency, in cooperation with the municipality and the Department of Public Works and Agriculture, in Fujairah, was able to remove traces of oil pollution that hit profitable beaches and pushed 15 kilometers away.

The beaches were returned to normal after swimming and fishing were banned for a specific period.

And this July, the specialized teams succeeded in removing oil pollution that hit the beaches of the city of Kalba, affiliated to Sharjah, after the Kalba municipality raised red flags on its beaches to temporarily prevent swimming in the sea, due to the beaches being polluted with oil and tar.

The UAE Federal Law prohibits the deliberate disposal of pollutants or waste from ships and aircraft, or any other means in the marine environment, and violators are punished by imprisonment for a period of not less than six months and not more than a year, and a fine of not less than 2000 dirhams and not more than 10,000 dirhams, or one of the The two penalties.

The Law of Environmental Protection and Development obliges the captain of the marine craft or the person responsible for it to take adequate measures to protect against the effects of pollution in the event of an accident involving one of the oil-carrying vehicles, resulting in, or fear of, pollution of the marine environment of the state.

In the event of an accident involving oil tankers, marine means, installations or carriers of dangerous materials, whether it was a deliberate act of the person in charge of the marine means or as a result of a mistake or negligence on his part, or one of his subordinates, the captain is the person responsible for stopping the leakage, and the owner And the carrier shall be jointly liable for paying the costs of damages, compensation, and control of spillage in the marine environment, coasts and beaches.

The Environment and Natural Reserves Authority in Sharjah, as the competent environmental authority in the emirate, has confirmed that it seeks to protect the environment, natural reserves, wildlife and their biodiversity through conducting scientific studies and research, laying the legal and administrative foundations for pollution control, in addition to setting appropriate policies for environmental awareness through Publishing educational publications, implementing programs and launching specialized campaigns in the environmental field, supporting the principle of sustainable development to preserve natural environmental resources, and ensuring their exploitation for the benefit of the new generation without wasting the right of future generations, in addition to its endeavor to be the main source and reference in Sharjah for environmental information and wildlife.

A fine for intentionally disposing of pollutants or waste from ships and aircraft at sea is up to 10,000 dirhams.
