Prosecutor Andreas Nyberg about the attempted murder of the child in Skellefteå: "Their age makes the case extra priority"

The crime took place on June 28, according to the prosecutor.

It is suspected that the 16-year-old boy attacked the 12-year-old with a knife, in an unknown place indoors in Skellefteå.

- We suspect that he stabbed the boy repeatedly, prosecutor Andreas Nyberg told SVT Nyheter Västerbotten on Thursday.

Interrogations will now be held with both the 12-year-old and the 16-year-old.

As these are young people, the police and prosecutors may enlist the help of both the Social Services and special child interrogation leaders.

Reviewing alternatives to detention

- We work together with the Social Services to see if there is any alternative to detention when it comes to the 16-year-old, that the Social Services can immediately place him instead. 

- We have a clearer picture of what happened now, but much remains to be done, says Nyberg.

The boys are already familiar.

- They know each other.

I do not want to go into whether it is family related or not.

But I can say that they have not lived together, as far as we know, says Nyberg.
