The Ministry of Health and Community Protection reported that the number of organ donors, since the launch of the National Organ Transplant Program in the country, in 2017, reached 94 post-mortem donors.

She confirmed the cultivation of 257 members, pointing to the increasing number of people registered in the program.

The ministry told "Emirates Today" that the organ transplant operations included 13 double transplants for people of more than 20 nationalities, in addition to the exchange of more than 101 members with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Kuwait, within the framework of cooperation in the field of organ exchange.

The Ministry affirmed its keenness to provide patients who need organ transplantation with the best level of reliable care services within the country, pointing to the accreditation of seven transplant centers, which are equipped to provide comprehensive and innovative specialized services, namely Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, Shakhbout Medical City, and Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi Hospital. City Hospital Mediclinic, Al Jalila Children's Specialty Hospital, Dubai Hospital, Al Qassimi Hospital.

She stated that the UAE is a world-leading model in the medical field, as its achievements extended to include donation and transplantation of human organs and tissues, in addition to the establishment of the National Program for Transplantation and Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissue.

The Ministry confirmed the development of a registration mechanism for “expression of desire” to donate organs after death, with the aim of facilitating and accelerating registration for the user, and including the registration platform on its website and electronic application.

It is also possible to obtain an electronic donor card after completing the registration.

She confirmed the electronic link with the Federal Authority for Identity, Nationality, Customs and Ports Security, to share the database of those registered in the program, and to add the desire to their data record, to facilitate obtaining the data of those wishing to donate through the ID card.

The description of “organ donor” also appears on the registrants page when entering the authority’s application.

The Ministry drew attention to organizing intensive workshops for specialists, including doctors and nurses of intensive care, and providing them with the necessary training in the field of donation and organ transplantation, in cooperation with a number of competent authorities, global and regional, to develop and build competencies in this specialty based on international best practices, and to achieve pioneering results for the state in The field of donation and organ transplantation, and ensuring that unified standards are followed in medical facilities to enable the largest possible number of hospitals to participate in building a sustainable program for organ donation and transplantation. The specialization, in addition to the continuous organization of various community events, with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of organ donation and saving the lives of patients suffering from organ failure diseases, and this comes in cooperation with health authorities at the state level.
