“The introduction of new international restrictions is erroneous and unpromising, and from the point of view of their humanitarian consequences, it is simply inhumane, especially in the context of the spread of coronavirus infection,” Zakharova said in a comment on the Russian Foreign Ministry website.

According to her, the DPRK is "exhausted" by the long-term sanctions regime of the UN Security Council.

“We are convinced that at this stage the policy of increasing sanctions pressure on the DPRK has exhausted itself,” Zakharova concluded.

US Permanent Representative to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield noted that the US remains ready to engage with North Korea through diplomacy.
