The Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, stressed - in a speech before the Spanish Senate today, Tuesday - his country's interest in strengthening bilateral relations in all fields.

This is a special occasion for this Legislative Council, before which international leaders have spoken on a few occasions.

In his speech, the Emir of Qatar thanked the President of the Senate Ander Khel and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Merrill Patet for granting him the honor of both houses, stressing his appreciation for this honor.

He said he looks forward to strengthening cooperation between the Spanish Senate and the Qatari Shura Council.

This morning, an official reception ceremony was held for the Emir of Qatar at the royal palace in the capital, Madrid, on the occasion of his state visit to the Spanish Kingdom.

In statements to Qatar News Agency, the Spanish Ambassador to Doha, Belen Alvaro Hernandez, said that the visit of the Emir of Qatar to Spain embodies the distinguished level of bilateral relations, and represents a great opportunity to advance these relations to broader horizons.

She pointed out that it is the only official visit hosted by King Felipe VI of Spain this year, and is scheduled to witness the signing of a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding to enhance cooperation in various fields.

This visit comes as part of a tour by the Emir of Qatar to a number of European countries, to hold talks with heads of state and senior officials, covering several issues, most notably global energy security.
