A woman from the city council of Kherson, a city in southern Ukraine that claims to have been seized by the Russian side, spoke to NHK on the 29th about the situation in the city where Russia is trying to gain control in various ways.

Subitrana Duminska, who works for the city council of Kherson, fled to western Lviv in February when the military invasion began, but is still in contact with colleagues who remain in the city.



In Kherson, the mayor was forcibly dismissed by the Russian side, but Mr. Duminska said, "The Russian side suddenly told the city council officials to dismiss and kicked them out of the building. "I took it down," he said, revealing that city council officials were also unilaterally dismissed.



The staff are no longer able to go to work, but they continue to work voluntarily at home.



She also said, "Russian people are going to the library and looking for Ukrainian textbooks. The purpose is to rewrite the textbooks in line with the Russian educational program," the Russian side said in various ways. He testified that he was trying to gain control.



On the other hand, regarding the referendum that the Russian side is told that it may be held to justify the occupation, "They were preparing, but the residents demonstrated and insisted that'Kherson is Ukraine'." For this reason, the referendum has not been heard recently. "
