“We cannot refuse gas in conditions where there is no alternative, in addition, electricity also depends on gas, there is no alternative here either, because in practice we are not connected to Romania,” RIA Novosti quotes her.

According to Sandu, if the contract with Gazprom ceases to be valid from May 1, energy resources will have to be purchased on the market.

However, the authorities hope that this will not happen.

“We have technical ways, but we will need to find a supplier who will offer a medium-term contract.

It is still more difficult with electricity, the government has launched a tender for its purchase, but the proposals are not satisfied, because they are very expensive, ”the President of Moldova explained.

Earlier, the country's authorities began negotiations with the Russian company Gazprom to extend the audit period for its debt for gas supplied and continue its supplies to the republic after May 1.
