Since 2012, the UAE has been celebrating Zayed Humanitarian Day, which falls on the nineteenth of Ramadan each year, coinciding with the anniversary of the death of the founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul. And drawing inspiration from his pioneering experience in the field of giving, tolerance, and humanitarian and social work.

Over the years of his rule, the name of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan was associated with giving and striving to provide assistance to everyone in need regardless of religion or race, which made him a symbol of giving and charity worldwide, and made the UAE a major contributor to humanitarian and relief work on the world level.

Zayed did not leave room for giving and serving humanity and the weak and needy groups except that he had prominent fingerprints in him, which made the name of Zayed engraved in the memory and minds of peoples and simple people, as many urban cities and service projects such as schools and hospitals in various countries of the world bore his name, to bear witness to the His white hands that did not differentiate in giving and love between people, and extended to help the desperate, support the needy, and support the weak everywhere.

Sheikh Zayed's giving was not spontaneous without organization. He was keen to give him a serious institutional character that gives him continuity, sustainability and accuracy in choosing projects. He established during 1971 the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, to be of assistance to brothers and friends by contributing to development projects and development for their peoples, as it was established during 1992 Zayed Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, to be an extended arm in the arenas of humanitarian giving in all its fields inside and outside the country, in addition to the great role played by the Emirates Red Crescent in various parts of the world, and other projects.

He focused on projects that benefit the citizen, such as housing projects, reconstruction, land reclamation, hospitals, schools, and cultural and educational centers. Wilson points out in his book that with the increase in the financial returns of the federal state, the level of ambition of Sheikh Zayed in charitable works and humanitarian aid rose, especially since he had visited many poor and developing third world countries, and witnessed the poverty that enveloped large areas of this world.

In the mid-seventies of the last century, he was putting billions of dollars at the disposal of international charitable organizations concerned with humanitarian aid, which put the United Arab Emirates at the forefront of countries contributing to the budgets of these international organizations.

Beside that;

The UAE was a leading member of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Arab Economic Development, which was established to finance development projects in needy Arab countries in 1973, with a capital of $1.5 billion. It was the main Emirati institution declared for providing aid.

The fund's work expanded after its establishment, adopting projects in Africa and Asia, and Sheikh Zayed raised the fund's capital to reach 4.

And in appreciation of this long march of giving;

Sheikh Zayed received many honors and awards around the world, including the Golden Document from the International Organization for Foreigners in Geneva, as the most important figure in 1985.
