It is right to also see the refugee crisis as an opportunity.

Many Ukrainian teachers have already applied, quite a few with a good knowledge of German.

There will be more skilled workers who want to integrate well and stay here.

Many, on the other hand, will only be prepared for a limited stay, since they are war refugees and want to return to their homeland as soon as possible.

When that is possible does not only depend on them;

many of them stayed straight away in the war zone or have already returned there.

humanitarian duty

Nevertheless, Germany must continue to adjust to millions of refugees.

This is not possible without fair distribution.

This applies to the EU as well as to the Federal Republic.

Those who have relatives to take them in should not be prevented from doing so;

it is also understandable that social benefits play a role.

Just as Poland, as Ukraine's neighbor, has to be given a helping hand, Germany alone cannot accommodate the many onward travelers.

And in Germany, Berlin cannot accommodate 10,000 refugees every day.

All this is not direct help for the Ukrainians in the war zone.

Taking in and caring for war victims is a humanitarian duty – and at the same time a state and social achievement that should not be underestimated.
