Russia appears to be spreading fake news about the invasion of Ukraine.

The New York Times (NYT) reported on the 10th (local time) that Russia is starting to produce fake news following the shutdown of independent media outlets to mislead domestic public opinion.

Fake news created by the Russian authorities is spreading through social media such as Telegram as well as various state-run media.

Most of the dozens of fake news a day claim that the various atrocities that have occurred in Ukraine due to the Russian invasion are not true.

A prime example is a photo of a woman drenched in blood after a Russian missile attack at her apartment in Chuchuev, eastern Kharkov, Ukraine, late last month.

A photo of a civilian woman with her face injured by shards of glass from the bombing has graced the covers of newspapers around the world as a symbol of criticism of Russia's inhumane aggression.

Russia then claimed that the woman in the photo was a Ukrainian military official and that her face blood looked like grape juice.

More than 600,000 Russians have read the allegations, posted on a Russian-operated, pro-Putin-friendly Telegram channel.

Russia also denies attacks on Ukrainian civilians.

In response to the missile attack that killed 34 civilians in Kharkov, Russia is distributing to the domestic media and social media, claiming that it is a missile launched from Ukraine, not its own.

The intention is that Ukraine was making a play on its own.

At least three people, including children, were killed in the bombing of an obstetrics and gynecology hospital, Russia's state-run TAS news agency also reported that it was a Ukrainian manipulation.

In particular, TASS News reported that 'Ukrainian neo-Nazis use civilians as human shields to attack Russian troops'.

In line with this, a photo of a Ukrainian soldier holding a Nazi flag was spread on Russian social media.

However, the New York Times pointed out that no evidence was presented in the article about the neo-Nazis of TAS News, let alone the authenticity of the photo.
