British Prime Minister Boris Johnson presented a plan of action related to the aggravation of the situation in Ukraine and called on the international community to join him.

The appeal was published in a number of Western media, and also distributed by the office of the head of the Cabinet.

"Vladimir Putin's act of aggression must end unsuccessfully and must visibly fail," wrote the British prime minister.

At the same time, Johnson stressed that the members of the North Atlantic Alliance do not intend to enter into direct confrontation with Russia as part of a military special operation in Ukraine.

“This is not a NATO conflict and will not be.

None of the allies sent their troops to Ukraine.

We do not feel hostility towards the Russians and do not want to question the position of a great nation and world power, ”the head of the British government said in a statement.

He added that Ukraine did not have a serious prospect of membership in the alliance in the near future.

However, Johnson said that "it is no longer enough to make sweet platitudes about a rules-based international order."

“We will have to actively defend it in the face of the ongoing drive to rewrite the rules through force and other means, such as economic coercion,” the British prime minister explained.

British strategy

Johnson's public plan includes six points.

The first of these is the creation of an "international humanitarian coalition".

As part of this initiative, the Prime Minister intends to hold talks on March 7-8 with his Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte, as well as leaders of the Visegrad Group countries (Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary).

Johnson also informed that the UK would provide 1,000 troops and funds in the amount of £220 million for "humanitarian operations".

The second point of the plan involves the provision of "defensive equipment" to Ukraine.

In the third paragraph, Boris Johnson proposes to further increase economic pressure on Russia.

So, in his opinion, all Russian banks without exception should be disconnected from the SWIFT system, and British law enforcement agencies should receive unprecedented powers to identify assets and funds owned by Russians.

“But these measures alone will not be enough if Europe does not begin to abandon Russian oil and gas, which provides funding for Putin’s war machine,” Johnson said.

The fourth point involves the fight against the “creeping normalization” of Russian actions, which, according to Johnson, took place after the conflict with Georgia in 2008 and the reunification of Crimea with Russia in 2014.

The fifth paragraph provides for a diplomatic settlement of the situation, while the government of Ukraine should take full part in it, writes the British prime minister.

Finally, in the sixth point of his plan, Johnson proposes to immediately strengthen Euro-Atlantic security.

“This includes not only strengthening the eastern flank of NATO, but also supporting non-NATO European countries that may face the risk of Russian aggression, such as Moldova and Georgia and the Western Balkan states,” the politician explained.

"Strengthen your position"

Boris Johnson's assertion that NATO is not going to get involved in a conflict with Russia over the situation in Ukraine contradicts a recent statement by British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss.

Earlier, on Sky News, she admitted that the operation in Ukraine could lead to a conflict between the Russian side and the North Atlantic Alliance.

This statement was sharply condemned in Moscow.

On March 5, Vladimir Putin called him "reckless" and said that it was after this that the decision was made to transfer the Russian containment forces to a special mode of combat duty.

“Like the British Foreign Secretary did when she blurted out that NATO might be involved in the conflict.

We had to immediately make a decision to put our deterrence forces on special duty,” the Russian leader explained.

The President noted that Russia perceives such statements as a signal and reacts to them.

“The reaction followed - they said that nothing of the kind was meant.

But no one reprimanded the Minister of Foreign Affairs, no one disavowed these statements.

At least someone would tell us something about this: you know, this is her personal opinion, do not pay attention.

Nobody nothing!

What are we supposed to think about this?

What are we to think about this?

Of course, they took it as a signal and reacted accordingly,” Putin added.

The latest statements and initiatives of British politicians are aimed at bringing the United Kingdom to the leaders of the anti-Russian front, the scale of which has grown after the start of the special operation in Ukraine, experts say.

“There is nothing surprising in the appearance of such a plan.

Britain is in the forefront of Russia's opponents.

In the security strategy adopted a year ago, the Russian Federation was called a direct threat to the UK.

In addition, after leaving the EU, the British side wants to maintain a dominant position in shaping the foreign policy of Europe, ”Elena Ananyeva, head of the Center for British Studies at the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences, explained in a conversation with RT.

In her opinion, Boris Johnson undertook to actively exploit the Ukrainian theme for personal reasons, since his position as prime minister and leader of the Conservatives has recently been extremely precarious, and many British media and experts predicted his imminent resignation.

“Johnson has been extremely precarious since November 2021.

He was dissatisfied not only with the deputies of his own party, but also with a wide range of voters, especially in connection with his parties, which he, along with his entourage, held against the background of the coronavirus restrictions introduced in the country.

Naturally, the current situation has removed the question of Johnson's stay in power, at least for a while, ”the analyst explained.

In turn, Kira Godovanyuk, a leading researcher at the Center for British Studies at the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in an interview with RT, called Johnson's plan on the situation in Ukraine only a continuation of the policy that London has consistently pursued towards Russia in recent years.

“The whole strategy of British foreign policy is aimed at containing and isolating Russia.

In recent years, London has been one of the most active participants in the Western coalition that supported the current Ukrainian government, and the plan that Johnson laid out logically fits into the strategy that the British Conservatives have already implemented, ”the political scientist said.

She also stated that in the light of current events, Johnson's failures on the domestic political front and the scandals with his participation faded into the background.

“The Johnson government is trying to use the Ukrainian factor to strengthen its domestic position in the country and beyond.

The fact that the British public and political forces are now quite consolidated in favor of containing Russia is a factor that plays into the hands of the Johnson government.

He raises this flag of the fight against the “Russian threat” in order to strengthen his position, ”the expert said.

In addition, Kira Godovaniuk believes that the United Kingdom intends to take a leadership position in the Euro-Atlantic community, ousting Washington from there.

“The UK does not hide the fact that it seeks to act as a hub for ensuring security in the Euro-Atlantic area, primarily relying on its strong position within NATO.

In addition, they seek to strengthen the alliance to contain Russia and tie European security to NATO, ”the expert concluded.
