“Our incoming services to Russia and Belarus have been suspended” and “we also do not accept shipments to these countries until further notice”, writes on its website the German group, which has also closed its offices and operations in Ukraine.

DHL joins a list of carriers that have taken similar decisions, further isolating Russia, which is under severe sanctions from Western countries.

The Swiss group Kuehne+Nagel, another European heavyweight in the sector, has suspended all shipments to Russia, except for pharmaceutical products and humanitarian goods.

The German DB Schenker announced on Tuesday the suspension of certain services to Russia, including air transport which has become impossible due to sanctions.

Danish shipping giant Maersk announced on Tuesday the suspension of new orders from and to Russian ports, excluding food, medical and humanitarian goods, but will honor orders placed in compliance with sanctions against Moscow.

The French shipowner CMA CGM is also no longer taking new orders from and to Russian ports.

The Italian MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company temporarily suspended reservations "with immediate effect" on Tuesday, except for essential goods.
