US ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said on the 12th (local time) that the United Nations Security Council had requested additional sanctions related to North Korea's recent missile launch.

In a post on his Twitter account that day, he said, "North Korea has launched six ballistic missiles since September 2021, each in violation of UN Security Council resolutions."

"This is in addition to today's designation by the State Department and the Treasury Department," he added.

Earlier, the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Overseas Assets Control (OFAC) announced on the same day that six North Korean nationals, one Russian, and one Russian group were subject to sanctions for involvement in the development of North Korea's weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and ballistic missile programs.

This is the first sanctions related to North Korea's ballistic missile activities since the Joe Biden administration took office.
