North Korea fired a projectile presumed to be a ballistic missile into the East Sea today (5th).

The Joint Chiefs of Staff said that North Korea fired a projectile presumed to be a ballistic missile from inland to the East Sea at about 8:10 a.m., and South Korean and U.S. intelligence officials are conducting detailed analysis for additional information.

North Korea's ballistic missile launch is a violation of UN Security Council resolutions.

This launch is North Korea's first armed protest in the New Year.

Based on the test launch of a new submarine-launched ballistic missile from a submarine on October 19 last year, it is the first time in 78 days.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff said that they were closely monitoring related developments in close cooperation between South Korea and the US in preparation for further North Korean launches.
