Gunman arrested at Windsor Castle in Britain

An armed man made his way to the British Royal Castle of Windsor just before Christmas Day, but was arrested by the police.

And police in the Thames Valley announced today, Saturday, that the 19-year-old man broke through the security area around the residence of Queen Elizabeth II at about 8:30 this morning.

"We can confirm that the security operation began immediately and that the man did not enter any building," Supervisor Rebecca Mears said in a statement.

The statement did not mention the type of weapon the gunman was carrying.

The statement said that members of the royal family had been informed of the incident, adding that there was no danger to the public.

Because of the epidemic, Queen Elizabeth II, 95, does not spend holidays and New Years at her country residence in Sandringham, eastern England, but at Windsor Castle.

The Queen celebrated Christmas Day in a small circle with her children Prince Charles, 73, Prince Edward, 57, her cousin Prince Richard, and all their wives.
