Tunisia: Moncef Marzouki sentenced to 4 years in prison

A court in the country sentenced former President Moncef Marzouki in absentia to four years in prison on charges of conspiring against external state security after he demanded that France stop its aid to the regime in Tunisia, the official Tunisian news agency said.

Marzouki, who resides in Paris, had strongly criticized President Kais Saied's steps to isolate the government and freeze parliament last July, and called for protests against Saied.
