05 December 2021 "Salinization and soil sodification are the main soil degradation processes that threaten the ecosystem and are recognized among the most important global problems for agricultural production, food security and sustainability in arid regions and semiarid ". Thus the FAO which dedicates the World Soil Day celebrated today to this problem.

Salinization is estimated to remove up to 1.5 million hectares of agricultural land from production each year, with losses of $ 31 billion annually. The problem now affects 8.7% of the planet or 833 million hectares.

Because of #SoilSalinization ...

🔸Plants can't absorb water from the soil adequately

🔸The soil structure is damaged

🔸Soils become hard and compact

This is a threat to food security and livelihoods around the world.
