November 14, 2021 The son of Libyan dictator Gaddafi killed 10 years ago, Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi, officially presented his presidential candidacy on December 24th.

This was reported by a representative of the National Electoral Commission. The news was reported by the Libyan TV Alahrar, relaunched by Russian agencies, and according to which Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi "presented the request for candidacy in the presidential elections to the regional electoral commission of the city of Sebha", in the south of the country.

In a video that shows him in the electoral office signing the necessary documents, Saif has a long white beard and is wearing a traditional suit.

Second son of the colonel, ousted and killed in Sirte in 2011, he was detained in the prison of Zintan until July 5, 2016 and in July 2015 he was sentenced to death by a Libyan court on charges of genocide, later he will obtain the amnesty.

From the day of his father's death, he is considered the leader of the Libyan national resistance. Graduated in architecture, until 2011 he is considered the most likely successor to the Libyan leadership, which was competing with his brother Mutassim Gaddafi who took refuge in Oman with his family.

At the outbreak of the Libyan Civil War in 2011, he sided with his father, becoming together with Musa Ibrahim, the official spokesman of the government, the privileged interlocutor between the former government and the international press.

With the radicalization of the civil war, Saif al-Islam Gaddafi has acquired more and more importance as a reference for the all-out resistance against the NTC militias and against NATO.

However, his candidacy is controversial because he is wanted by the International Criminal Court and for this reason the Libyan Military Prosecutor has issued an arrest warrant against him for suspected links with the Russian mercenaries of the Wagner company.
